Ireland’s Wholesale Electricity Prices Jump 42%: See What €500 Would Have Cost Last Year

Electricity prices have risen so much that a €500 wholesale electricity purchase this June would have cost just €351 a year ago. That’s almost €150 more for exactly the same purchase in the space of just 12 months.

According to the latest Central Statistics Office (CSO) Wholesale Price Index, wholesale electricity prices were 42.2% higher than in June 2025, despite falling 6.2% during the month. The report also shows significant price changes across energy fuels, manufacturing, food products and construction materials, providing a snapshot of the costs businesses face before products reach consumers.

Key Findings

• Wholesale Electricity Prices: Prices were 42.2% higher in June 2026 than in June 2025, although they fell by 6.2% during the month.
• Electricity Compared With the 2022 Peak: Wholesale electricity prices remained 65.0% below the peak recorded in August 2022.
• All Energy Fuels: Prices fell by 9.0% between May and June 2026, but were still 24.5% higher than a year earlier.
• Fuel Oil: Fuel oil prices were 32.0% higher in the 12 months to June 2026, despite falling 10.2% during June.
• Gas Oil: Gas oil prices, excluding autodiesel, were 24.7% higher than in June 2025 and fell by 8.2% during the month.
• Overall Manufacturing Prices: The Producer Price Index for manufacturing industries was 3.5% higher year-on-year, while prices fell slightly by 0.2% in June.
• Domestic Producer Prices: Prices for manufactured products sold in Ireland were 4.1% higher than in June 2025.
• Export Producer Prices: Prices for exported manufactured goods increased by 3.4% over the year, but declined by 0.2% during June.
• Food Product Prices: Producer prices for food products rose by 2.9% in the 12 months to June 2026 and increased by 0.2% during the month.

• 🔧 Copper Pipes and Fittings: Prices rose by 8.7% compared with June 2025.
• 🎨 Paints, Oils and Varnishes: Wholesale prices increased by 8.4% over the year.
• 🏗️ Construction Products: The All Materials Index was unchanged during June but stood 3.1% higher than in June 2025.
• Building and Construction Costs: The index combining construction materials and wages was unchanged in June and increased by 3.2% year-on-year.
• 🏢 Cement: Cement prices fell by 5.3% compared with June 2025, making it one of the most notable annual decreases in construction materials.
• 🔌 Electrical Fittings: Wholesale prices declined by 4.1% over the 12 months to June 2026.
