How Ireland Wide Researches and Writes Its Guides

Ireland Wide guides are researched and written by named people: Dan, our founder and editor, the writer Matt Hook and the Ireland Wide editorial team. We work from heritage bodies, museum collections, official tourism sites, transport operators and government sources, and a person reviews and takes responsibility for every page we publish, including any page where AI tools helped.

Who writes Ireland Wide

Dan is the founder and editor of Ireland Wide. Born and raised in Ireland, he researches the country’s history, mythology and cultural traditions using museum collections, heritage authorities and historical sources. He leads the editorial team, with a particular focus on separating documented history from later folklore and modern interpretations. Read Dan’s articles.

Matt Hook is a Canadian writer of Scottish and Irish heritage. He built his writing career on detailed gaming guides, turning complex mechanics, history and lore into useful information, and brings the same research-first approach to his Ireland Wide articles on Irish travel, heritage, history and culture. He also holds CMA and CPA designations as a professional accountant. Read Matt’s articles.

The Ireland Wide editorial team is a group of travel writers, researchers and content creators who publish travel guides, castle and attraction guides, Irish culture pieces, tourism news and official data stories. See the editorial team’s articles.

How we research our guides

We start with the people whose job it is to know. Depending on the subject, that means:

  • Heritage bodies and museum collections for history, mythology, names and archaeology.
  • Official tourism sites and the attractions themselves for opening times, tickets and access.
  • Transport operators for routes, timetables and service changes.
  • Government and public sources for holidays, rights, statistics and rules, with the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland kept separate where they differ.

Where a guide includes something a writer has seen or done themselves, we say so plainly. If a page doesn’t say it, read it as researched advice rather than a personal visit. We don’t invent trips, anecdotes or local credentials.

Keeping guides current

Prices, opening hours and timetables in Ireland change, sometimes with little notice. Date-sensitive posts, such as our Ireland bank holidays and school holidays guides, are reviewed each year so the dates stay right.

Spotted something out of date? Tell us through the contact page or email contact@irelandwide.com. It’s the quickest way to get a page checked, and we’re glad of it.

How we use AI tools

Some content on Ireland Wide may be created or edited with the help of AI tools before it goes through human editorial review, as set out in section 11 of our Terms and Conditions. The tools can assist. They don’t decide what gets published.

A person reviews every page before it goes live and is responsible for everything we publish, including facts, dates, names and links. We aim for information that is accurate at the time of publication, and we still recommend checking important details (prices, opening times, travel rules) with the official source before you travel.

Corrections

If we get something wrong, we fix it. Send the page link and what needs changing to contact@irelandwide.com or use the contact page, and include a source if you have one. We check every report, and when something is wrong we update the page.

Independence, affiliate links and partner content

Ireland Wide is funded partly through affiliate links. If you book or buy through one of them, we may earn a commission, usually at no extra cost to you. Affiliate relationships don’t guarantee positive coverage, and they don’t decide what we recommend. The full details are in our Affiliate Policy.

From time to time we publish partner content (sponsored articles or paid partnerships). Partner content is labelled, so you can tell it apart from our own editorial guides.
